Odds & Ends #9: Salvation

When there is nothing left for you, when the earth harbours not even the smallest bug, you will turn to the higher power and yell. And your words will go unheard. Is that what you want to subscribe to? Hell, I'd drive the other way too.

Sold

Listed on the property line

Sure as hell better than the double blind

Could have said you wanted to sell

With the lot value at an all time high

Should have told me, I’ve got a guy

You could’ve been set up real nice

Life on the coast with a bottle of wine

Clear that smog from your eyes

You’ll be worthless in a second life

So act now, so act right

Put your land in my hands while the earth is dyin’

How you act now will reflect the light

Right through your window in the dark of night

Burning rain starts to fly

Melt your grass, fulfill your rite

Drive off in a great big line

Hope you look for

Hope you look for

Hope you look for

A great big “for sale” sign

Mahogany Envy

Appreciate the dining room but wont have it

Same with the lawn

Crossed the border of current luxury

A dozen rooms paid for in gold

Current cash can’t find the fixings

Out the Door

Watched a late night movie

As the neighbours lost all of their dogs

“I don’t want to be free”

Said the squirrel to his tree

As his nuts rained all over the floor

Aww Goose

A bird pooped on me

I took a feather

Not from him, but off the ground an hour later

Stupid cosmic justice something or other

Cigarette

White sneaks and a salmon suit

What could be a life more dilute

Fancy dinner with a cheap beer

It’s all forgotten when the face draws near

Stubble hidden behind the smoky door

Who cares what he wears when it’s all on the floor

Soak up the second chances, the posthumous ruminations. Only when every piece is in place will you see the one line that lays from corner to corner. Until then, slot in every hole you can, there's one perfect adjacent in the pile. Unless you got left behind when they all went to the thrift store together.

Alone and whole,
Steffen

Odds & Ends #15: Strange

Husk, don't you believe in it? Why are you alone? I hear parties raging in your special certain language, are you too afraid to join? I'm concerned. I know you only come out every so often. Why not make the most of it, and at least rise for some strange?

Odds & Ends #14: Songscape

Jester dogwalked, there's no fun here. So the king plucks an earwig, munches down, and tells the minstrels to play by ear.

The Midway Garden

“Bring me a beer!” a newcomer yelled, putting his bright red fez on the counter. The bartender meandered over, polishing a glass, “Sir, perhaps something more exotic would fit your tastes?” He reached for a maroon liqueur capped with a bloodied spike, but a boorishly muscled, grey pelted arm reached up to meet him. Great, padded fingers clasped his bicep, and the two locked sunken eyes. “No. Beer.” A dark ale was quickly served. Across the aisle, a woman, green in complexion and fascinated by the encounter, sauntered over. She sat on the stool beside the beastly man, staring at him with four red eyes. Through the thinnest of windows behind them, the savanna roared with strange, lithe beauty. Green-grey grass whistled in a brown miasma. The sun was setting, its hazy orange eye set square upon a lone umbrella-shaped acacia. It was late in the season, the tree only bore a single fruit. The green woman had her two sets of legs crossed akimbo. She nodded with a smile to something the ...
