Odds & Ends #14: Songscape

Jester dogwalked, there's no fun here. So the king plucks an earwig, munches down, and tells the minstrels to play by ear.

Grumble

I’ve got the same friend

Since grade 5

All he does is wait around

For another life

Mumble

Yesterday

You were mine

Tomorrow

I’ll be fine

Yesterday

You were mine

Tomorrow

We’ll be fine

Walking down sherry lane

Enjoying ourselves merrily

Yesterday

You were mine

Tomorrow

We’ll still be fine

Walking down sherry lane

Piping hot pie in my hands again

Yesterday

You were mine

Tomorrow still

I’ll manage

Walking up your hill

And rolling down the other side

Yesterday

Leads to now

And now

Gives way to tomorrow

And I’ll walk through it always

And it’ll stay

It will stay

Okay

It will stay okay

Humble

People gather in the park

On a sad Sunday

And one kid asks a lot,

What will happen one day?

Oh, it's the mourning of sister sorrow

The mourning of sister sorrow

And the dancing cheers and shouts

From one other another may borrow

The sun comes down and rarely up

Good morning sister sorrow

Hark, all the people sit

In darkness that befits

The mourning, all consummate

Good morning, sister sorrow

Crumble

Braid my bones

For cities to be grown

All above your thousand thoughts

I am a foreigner

A foreigner

Among men
Among the tops of tents

Of all beings

And each they’d sing

I am a foreigner

I am a foreigner

Of men

Of every winter grace, never in day

Stumble

Flowers on the construction lot

Tells about what they thought

About nothing could grow there again

No matter where they placed the sign

Things crop up around the line

Fulfilling their destiny

Just like flower, a building grows,

Not quite so close

As you and me

Construction blocks the sidewalk now

Making me take a path to hell

Wishing there was somewhere else to go

But the trees are very friendly here

No more buildings near

And I wish you could come along

To walk this lonely path all wrong

Fumble

Wake up get your helmet on get out of bed

We’ll go for a ride, you’ll see

Get up put some clothes on, get out of your bed

Tired legs are no match for company

And you’ll you’ll see, you’ll see, you’ll se

The river flowing by your feet,

You’ll see see, you’ll see, you’ll see

A tired woman pouring coffee to make ends meet

And you’ll see

What you truly mean to me

You mean truly to me

Wake up, you mean truly to me

Wake up to why I’m so sweet

It's not how you move you move your knees

It's how you move me

Get up and out of your head

Get up, out of bed

I am a sinning man
And I play with my sinning hand,
A song for you

I am a sinning man
And I play with my sinning hand,
A song for you

Odds & Ends #15: Strange

Husk, don't you believe in it? Why are you alone? I hear parties raging in your special certain language, are you too afraid to join? I'm concerned. I know you only come out every so often. Why not make the most of it, and at least rise for some strange?

The Midway Garden

“Bring me a beer!” a newcomer yelled, putting his bright red fez on the counter. The bartender meandered over, polishing a glass, “Sir, perhaps something more exotic would fit your tastes?” He reached for a maroon liqueur capped with a bloodied spike, but a boorishly muscled, grey pelted arm reached up to meet him. Great, padded fingers clasped his bicep, and the two locked sunken eyes. “No. Beer.” A dark ale was quickly served. Across the aisle, a woman, green in complexion and fascinated by the encounter, sauntered over. She sat on the stool beside the beastly man, staring at him with four red eyes. Through the thinnest of windows behind them, the savanna roared with strange, lithe beauty. Green-grey grass whistled in a brown miasma. The sun was setting, its hazy orange eye set square upon a lone umbrella-shaped acacia. It was late in the season, the tree only bore a single fruit. The green woman had her two sets of legs crossed akimbo. She nodded with a smile to something the ...
