Odds & Ends #5: Hibiscus and Lavender

Climbing up stems and stalks, the cicada basks in the night. Up and down plants in wild colours. Buzzing in the night. Across the glassy grass a tent is erected by man. Slow and steady.

With a pillow and a warm place to lay, he unzips his skin, sets free the spirits in his bones. They burst through the tent in a poof and a cloud.

As the inner parts of man rise above, the cicada connects to its network below. Shrouded in art, its wires weave and surge towards the tent, connecting the mind of man to nature.

His thoughts could barely be translated.

Won't you satisfy my divine fear, that the oaf named coy will soon be near

A Dreamlike Duality

Sitting still, a bridge undercover at night,

Spies on water flowing freely below,

Has such a different gaze under daylight,

The full extent of this change we’ll never know.

Two tender lovers preciously alike,

Locking eyes and forgetting all else,

Sing and laugh as birds over the bridge on bike,

Yielding a long winding path for wedding bells.

But the city sweeps the cherry-red leaves,

Away, away every day at earliest morn,

In this way the pigmented story always weaves,

For on fresh earth new endings are always born.

On the morning bus grandmama awaits,

On the night bus the sorority sisters pray,

To see all her children at the stop of fate,

For the price of rendered love to go away.

But the gulls, the bats, and the fireflies,

They travel with the water.

Between them seeing everything that happens day and night.

On no bus or bike or bridge shall they bother.

Why do they continue to fly?

Dream

I took my sister out to see the joy of nature.

The camps were set up instead

Black-coated figures rode in on everything

Beating heart castles in purple thorny walls.

They found me and that was it

They sent angels from my past to reckon my obedience

I had none to give

I slipped down to the base of the pit of the worlds basin

And swam off onto the sunset back to my home.

They found me and that was it

I jumped into the basin and scaled the purple spiky walls

I saw the beating castle heart and could not resist getting closer

A spare key let me to a storage room

Strewn out in the corner is brief respite

But the people they keep coming

I found a knife now

No choice

In the base of the neck

Safety guaranteed at any cost

In craze

Friend enter

Stabbed dead

I lie down

Crushed against purple thorns

God have me

Layering

Had a dream where I was told sorry

I thought I needed forgiveness

Neither are really true

But in a clearer state of mind I can reflect

Ripples in the pool of mercury dampen

Shed my overtones and hum my mortal chord.

Spotlight

Why have a drink when you can drown?

Light up the sky with your ceiling low

Avoid stranger contact in the street.

Stranger is the colour of the man’s eyes you seek.

Low tunnel west under the earth you walk.

Paralytic lights fall down upon your pulse.

No-beat heart cry in self conquest.

The light of day strange and metallic.

As the ferrous sky pumps air to ganglia.

Leave tunnel seek eyes.

Blood sky burst forth.

Birth day from hole of night.

Lights shine escape through scroll of naught.

I need you to take a step.

But why drink when you can drown.

Watching You Watching Me

There’s a camera that follows you into your dreams.

You’re having a small nice little dream.

And when the time is right a little white box with a big black eye shows up.

And you know it’s back to spy.

And you can’t do anything but wave.

Maybe don’t acknowledge.

Makes sure no one can imagine the world in such a different light.

Arid night camp scene astray

Sleepy widow to life caught by May

On the picture screen calm showing aplomb

She asleep he holding seat tight

In gentle slumber project to the night

Fire dead but charcoal formed

Project to the screen desire unadorned

Odds & Ends #15: Strange

Husk, don't you believe in it? Why are you alone? I hear parties raging in your special certain language, are you too afraid to join? I'm concerned. I know you only come out every so often. Why not make the most of it, and at least rise for some strange?

Odds & Ends #14: Songscape

Jester dogwalked, there's no fun here. So the king plucks an earwig, munches down, and tells the minstrels to play by ear.

The Midway Garden

“Bring me a beer!” a newcomer yelled, putting his bright red fez on the counter. The bartender meandered over, polishing a glass, “Sir, perhaps something more exotic would fit your tastes?” He reached for a maroon liqueur capped with a bloodied spike, but a boorishly muscled, grey pelted arm reached up to meet him. Great, padded fingers clasped his bicep, and the two locked sunken eyes. “No. Beer.” A dark ale was quickly served. Across the aisle, a woman, green in complexion and fascinated by the encounter, sauntered over. She sat on the stool beside the beastly man, staring at him with four red eyes. Through the thinnest of windows behind them, the savanna roared with strange, lithe beauty. Green-grey grass whistled in a brown miasma. The sun was setting, its hazy orange eye set square upon a lone umbrella-shaped acacia. It was late in the season, the tree only bore a single fruit. The green woman had her two sets of legs crossed akimbo. She nodded with a smile to something the ...
